So this was a short story, and it was like 50 pages long so I read it in like less than an hour. I must say that for such a tiny book, it was very meaningful!
I feel like the themes in Galatea were definitely still relevant today. A lot of men are still like Galatea's wonderful husband, and expect women to exist only for men.
I also found Galatea interesting because in my philosophy class, we are talking about consciousness. Obviously this is just a story and goddesses were involved, but I found it interesting that a non-human thing had free will and consciousness. I feel like that's kinda irrelevant, but oh well, maybe I'm still in a philosophy state of mind even though I had no lessons this week because of the stupid athletics carnival.
So yeah, I think that Madeline Miller has once again created a really great story that reflects the world both millennia ago and now. The ending was pretty good, it was a bit of a girl power moment. Yay Galatea.
Galatea by Madeline Miller, 14+* ★★★★
*This age recommendation is only my opinion. Some younger people might feel comfortable reading this book, and some older people might not. That's fine, either way. Warning for weird kissing stuff, sexual references and themes, sexual assault, low-level violence, suicide and potentially upsetting themes.
