So I read this book because I knew it’s very popular. Unfortunately though, I don’t know why it’s so popular.
I think that the character Rachel, who was an alcoholic, is a little problematic. I’m not sure that she, as an alcoholic, was portrayed in the most accurate way. I don’t know too much about people who suffer from alcoholism, but I believe that too many clichés and stereotypes were used to depict her. And I also think her recovery was a little too oversimplified.
I also didn’t find the book that interesting at times. The beginning was quite slow in my opinion, and things only got interesting about halfway through the novel.
However, I did find the latter part of the book pretty good. There were lots of different plot twists which I liked, and the final ending plot twist was very much a surprise so I liked that.
I was a little bit bored and disengaged with this book, so it took me a while to read it. I think that the end was pretty good though so maybe it was worth the boringish start. I’m glad I didn’t give up on it… but I don’t really DNF books anyway hahaha.
The Girl On the Train by Paula Hawkins, 15+* ★★★
*This age recommendation is only my opinion. Some younger people might feel comfortable reading this book, and some older people might not. That's fine, either way. Warning for murder, violence, gore, swearing, sexual references and themes, heavy themes of drug and alcohol abuse, domestic abuse, death of children and potentially upsetting themes.
