The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender - Book Review

This is a long-title one. It took me a while to read, because I have been busy these past weeks.
The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton.
Ok. So. This book was very... whimsical? It didn't exactly focus that much on the main character. I would say most of the first half of the book was recounting Ava Lavender's family's history. I enjoyed it, and even forgot that Ava Lavender was telling the story, and that the story wasn't being told in third person. If that makes sense?
I liked this book a lot and I think that Leslye Walton had a good idea to create this story with its characters. I kinda liked how dark it got towards the end. I feel like the ~thing~ towards the end of the book was pretty dark. This book demonstrated how people can change. There are some characters in the book who really changed over time, most for the worse, which was sad but true. One of the characters, I didn't realise how messed up he had turned until that ~thing~ that he did.
A well-written book!

*This age recommendation is only my opinion. Some younger people might feel comfortable reading this book, and some older people might not. That's fine, either way. Warning for kinda creepy/gory scenes, sexual references and some swearing (I think).
