Evan and Connor choked on their laughter as they came to a stop in a lush patch of emerald grass. They lay down side-by-side, Evan resting his head on Connor’s arm.
Connor plucked the now-squished tibouchina flower from behind Evan’s ear.
“You squished our flower!” he exclaimed, before throwing it at Evan’s face. It stopped mid-journey and fluttered down, landing in the grass between them.
“Did you know that tibouchina flowers are also known as ‘princess flowers’? And there are…” Evan scrunched up his nose as he attempted to recall a fact, “350 different species!”
Connor giggled again. “Oooh, these flowers remind me of you, Evan!” he said, “except there’s only one of you…” he shyly looked at Evan from under his eyelashes, causing a light blush to paint Evan’s cheeks.
“I know! I’m going to make you a flower crown!” Connor jumped up, running back over to the tibouchina tree to collect the flowers. Evan sprinted after him, trying to catch up. When Evan finally caught up to him, Connor had a handful of flowers, all different shades of purple.
