Well, that was certainly a journey. A good journey. This book is popular for a reason.
The style of writing is amazing, so whimsical and I think it really fits. Like the fact that it's based on Greek mythology was so interesting, and the writing style and story just fit really well together.
The ending. It was sad. Certainly. But I didn't cry. Maybe because I knew it was coming. Maybe because my heart is made of ice. I don't know. But I felt the most emotional at the very end, on the last page, because... well, I can't say that much without spoiling, but it was just so sentimental I guess. The last paragraph was so beautifully written, and the paragraphs and pages before that just were so beautiful and heartwarming and heartbreaking and just so... final.
I would definitely recommend this book. Maybe someday I might reread it, which doesn't sound like much but I only reread books that mean a lot to me.
I'm sure at some point I will cry over this book. I don't think it's hit my brain yet that it's finished and gone (I only finished reading it about 15 minutes ago). When I finished I just kind of stared into space, not believing it was over.
I just can't believe I've finally read the The Song of Achilles. It's so popular, and knowing it is so different to knowing about it.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, 13+* ★★★★1/2
*This age recommendation is only my opinion. Some younger people might feel comfortable reading this book, and some older people might not. That's fine, either way. Warning for potentially upsetting themes, weird kissing stuff and worse, sexual references and themes, a bit of swearing, violence, and since it's set in ancient times, maltreatment of women.
ill be sure to read it soon then!!
