It took me weeks, if not months to read this book. I would like to mention that my school is responsible for that, because they took away my laptop (for the school holidays, we’re getting new ones after) and messed up my reading (and blogging) schedule.
So yeah. It was a long journey. I was excited when I started this book because Chaol was a character I liked. I dunno why. And when Yrene was introduced, I was so happy. It feels like things are starting to come to a full circle (or whatever that phrase is), even though I still have two books left. I started Empire of Storms last night.
I’m kinda sad though, because I really feel like I’m losing momentum for this series. I do recall enjoying it before my school messed up my reading options. I mean, it’s not the best, but I felt like I knew what was going on and stuff.
I really started to notice Sarah J Maas’ writing style while reading this. Though I think it fits in with the fantasy-medieval-type world that the Throne of Glass series is set in, I feel sometimes like it’s too repetitive and forced. The author sure loves ellipses and the cutting-off things (“—”). Sometimes I felt like they were used too much.
I did kinda like the ending of this book, though. It did feel the tiniest bit rushed, but I liked it.
Yrene! It was so cool to see her and how she grew and valued what Aelin had done for her. And it was nice at the end when Chaol realised who had helped her.
I do ship Yrene and Chaol. I dunno why but I do. I think they can both help one another in the future. Also it was kinda cool to see a disabled character in the book.
Some of the things mentioned in this — like how Aelin was going — have made me curious for Empire of Storms. I can tell there’s gonna be a lot of drama.
So yeah. That’s all I have to say for now. I wish I didn’t lose that momentum. And I’m scared because EoS and KoA are MASSIVE. LIKE I BOUGHT THE PHYSICAL BOOKS THIS TIME AND I AM T E R R I F I E D.
That is all.
Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas, 14+* ★★★.25
*This age recommendation is only my opinion. Some younger people might feel comfortable reading this book, and some older people might not. That's fine, either way. Warning for potentially upsetting themes, weird kissing stuff and worse, violence, gore, fantasy-type disturbing stuff, sexual references/themes and swearing.
