I finally read Pride and Prejudice! I can definitely see why it's popular and stuff. I feel like it would have been the most exciting, drama-filled book that anyone had read back around the time it was released. There was certainly lots of drama in it.
Elizabeth was actually a really strong female character. Like, she actually made decisions for herself and stuff. Wowww. Seriously though. I like her as a protagonist.
The funny thing about Elizabeth Bennet is that I literally always say her name in an English accent. One of my friends also experiences this. It's really funny.
Mr Darcy was hmmmm? I have heard that the general population of straight women is obsessed with him, but like I dunno. I'm confused. But maybe that's got something to do with the fact that I don't find anyone attractive. I guess he didn't respond violently or creepily to Elizabeth's initial rejection so that's something? He seemed pretty nice, but not that nice.
Time for a quick Google search of: Why is everyone obsessed with Mr Darcy?
Ok so after reading this article, I must say that I am now... still very confused. I have many questions. Which I actually don't want the answers to, thanks. That article contained many generalisations that lots of people are not going to be happy about. I mean, me being aroace means that I am somewhere between being a plant and being a god, because "romantic and sexual attraction is what makes us human" -said by my religion teacher.
Also, that article nearly made me throw up. How does someone swimming in a lake make them more attractive though? Ew. No thanks. I keep reading articles that keep mentioning that scene. It wasn't even in the book? Rude.
Anyway, Pride and Prejudice was pretty good -- ahead of its time and still relevant today. Yay.
