Reading this book was a long journey because I forgot about it halfway through (I had to renew it a lot). I know that sounds bad but when I remembered it and started reading it again I actually enjoyed it!
I believe that this book was better than the first in the series. I would say that this book was darker than The Lost Hero and I liked that about it. I think I also liked the familiarity of some of the characters from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, which I read in 2019.
Overall I think that The Son of Neptune was a lot more interesting than The Lost Hero. The characters had more unique and creative backstories in this book. Honestly I was thinking of DNFing this series until I started enjoying this book. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed most of this book.
This book was also pretty funny. The whole Amazon thing was hilarious and also smart. Rick Riordan is very witty and creative which I appreciate, however I think I’ve kinda grown out of lots of his books. So when I say I didn’t enjoy the books, it’s not because of the books themselves but because I might be the wrong audience. Still, I will persevere and continue reading this series!
The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan, 10+* ★★★
*This age recommendation is only my opinion. Some younger people might feel comfortable reading this book, and some older people might not. That's fine, either way. Warning for low level violence, death of family and potentially upsetting themes.
