Ok so I know that the movie Coraline scarred lots of children for life. So I decided to read Coraline because I wanted something scary but short. I was kinda disappointed though. It wasn't really scary at all, just a bit strange and messed up at times. To be honest I wasn't very engaged with Coraline and I found it a bit boring... maybe that's just my fault though. I know this book is well-liked so I feel kinda guilty and confused because I didn't like it.
I kinda liked the story though. Like, the theme of the Other world and all that. I think, though, because this was a short book it didn't have that much time to build and develop the setting or mood.
I dunno man. I was just really disengaged from this book. Maybe I'll try to read it again someday.
Coraline by Neil Gaiman, 10+* ★★.25
*This age recommendation is only my opinion. Some younger people might feel comfortable reading this book, and some older people might not. That's fine, either way. Warning for a little bit of gore and creepy stuff.
