SbeifvLibfbiufijgdldm. This book was so tragic and sad oh my goodness. I'm gonna try and keep this spoiler-free because then it will be shorter and my fingers won't die from typing so much.
*This age recommendation is only my opinion. Some younger people might feel comfortable reading this book, and some older people might not. That's fine, either way. Warning for sexual references and themes, domestic abuse, homophobic characters and slurs, swearing, death of loved ones and potentially upsetting themes.
I think this book really opened my eyes to how different a celebrity's life is in reality vs how it's shown in the media. I went through a old Hollywood phase that probably lasted a few days but now I think Evelyn Hugo has resparked that phase, at least for a little while.
The concept of this book reminded me a bit of Addie LaRue to be honest. If you know what I mean, you know what I mean. But in saying that, I would like to clarify the fact that this book was very unique. The characters were really unique too and I also liked the unreliable narrator-ish thing going on with Evelyn.
But oh my goodness THAT ENDING. GFRTILFCIS.
Evelyn went through so much in her life and I think this book reminded me that celebrities' lives are not at all happy or perfect, and how much fame can force them to hide/sacrifice things about themselves. I think Evelyn Hugo also did a good job of portraying relationships and how they aren't perfect. And also some of the friendships in this book were amazing!
(Side note: there was a guy at my primary school named Harry Cameron so I couldn't really take book Harry Cameron seriously at times.)
I also liked how Monique and Evelyn's lives intertwined. That was one heck of a plot twist.
Also... queer rep! I feel like as I read this book I started to feel more gay (by the way I'm lesbian oaa) hahahaha. In a way I'm slightly surprised that this book is so popular since most of the other popular booktok/bookstagram/whatever books are kinda straight... also I heard somewhere that book-social-media can get really homophobic. I dunno I was just a bit surprised.
Anyway I really did like this book. I think I will read more books by Taylor Jenkins Reid at some point yay.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, 14+* ★★★★.75
