Holy shit George Orwell really decided to dial everything up to 100% in this book didn’t he. Bruh at times he was writing full on smut and at other times he wrote very graphic torture scenes…….
Despite all that, I actually really liked this book. It was a little boring at times but I think the overall message was pretty cool. I actually really liked the ending of the book. Orwell doesn’t mess around with that “happy endings” nonsense, does he?
Also by the way the whole ministry of truth thing (changing what people believe about the past) reminds me of my friend M’s red tree theory (which everyone said made no sense but it actually did).
It was actually a little freaky to see some of the parallels between the world Winston lived in and the world we live in. George Orwell is actually really good at that stuff — also with Animal Farm.
I don’t have much left to say for some reason. So I’m going to leave you here with this quote:
“We’re in year ten, we can handle rats eating off someone’s face.” -S.W.
1984 by George Orwell, 14+* ★★★★
*This age recommendation is only my opinion. Some younger people might feel comfortable reading this book, and some older people might not. That's fine, either way. Warning for sexual references and themes, torture, invasions of privacy, government control, and other potentially upsetting themes.
