I was really excited to read this book because it seemed like a good one. And it was!!
I really liked the style of Cold. It told the story from two perspectives — the perspective of the ghost of the kid who died and the perspective of someone who didn’t even know him.
I think it was a very unique way to tell a murder mystery story. Usually the main character goes out of their way to solve the mystery but in this one Georgia just kinda continued on with her life and sort of fell into the mystery. In a way I felt like it was more realistic and I also liked the underlying message that strangers can still care about you.
The ending had one heck of a plot twist. I suppose there was a lot of signs it would happen, but I found myself thinking “nah that won’t happen” but then it did! And then there was the other part that I did not see coming. At all. Wow.
Cold was very vibey. I mean, there was a reason that the title was Cold. I always find it fascinating when people just live in places where it snows because that sure as hell doesn’t happen where I’m from. But I actually think this novel could be study-able in like an English class or something because there was clearly symbolism and stuff in there.
I also think that there was a really good point brought up about homophobia. I can’t really explain it without giving spoilers so I’m just gonna leave it at that.
Carrie was cool. Kinda. Um it’s complicated. So yeah.
I think that’s all I have to say for now because I can’t really say much else without spoiling stuff.
I really recommend this book though! It’s short but really good. Can we also take a moment to appreciate how nice the cover is? Thank you.

*This age recommendation is only my opinion. Some younger people might feel comfortable reading this book, and some older people might not. That's fine, either way. Warning for homophobic characters, murder, sexual references and themes, bullying and potentially upsetting themes.
